Why brands have evolved

So you all know, brands have evolved to more than just a quality statement. Quality is an entry point into the consumer mind-set these days. There aren't too many catagories where parody doesn't play a part. MP3 players is maybe one of the few exceptions. Can it be assumed that when we pay a good amount of money for a product or service, it's going to be worth every penny? Shouldn't it now more than ever?

A brand is a promise. Quality is just part of that promise.

Do brands make you feel differently at times. You bet. Think about when you go to a nice party. You put on your fancy going-out clothes. You look good. You feel good. Why? Because of the clothes on your back. What are those? Labels which represent brands. We all interact with brands on a daily basis. Why do you use the soap you use? Toothpaste? What cereals do you prefer? Toilet paper. What kind of gas do you buy? They are all your personal preferences. Maybe they are learned preferences or they are automatic preferences because your mom used them.

You all are going to have the privilege to own some brands in your lifetime. Make sure when you get that opportunity, you seize it to your best ability.

For now, concentrate on making your own brand. Think about it. You are all going to enter the work-place and establish your brand in that environment in the first 30-60 days you are there. I hope you establish yourselves in the manner that turns heads for the right reasons.
