After reading the Socially Responsible Advertising packet I began to wonder. About what you ask? Well... if a company, like Phillip Morris, a.k.a. "the Tobacco Kingpin," gets no positive effect from their attempts to give back to the community, then why keep doing so? Whoa, did I just say that? Yes I did. Everything I have learned thus far is about making money in a round about way. These companies are losing money and in return may be damaging their image just by mentioning its name. Sometimes no ads are best I believe.
Think about it, Starbucks, Ben & Jerry's and Chevron were all mentioned in this article. How many ads of any of these companies do you see a day. I like television and I don't think I have seen a commercial for any of these in a while. I'm pretty sure that there is still a Starbucks on every corner. If these companies are so exploitative as some people make them out to be then I believe that they should all together stop trying to improve their image. Like Lewis Williams stated, "...it's a little too late." You can still get your eggs over greasy at a Denny's near you. Well you don't have to agree; just think about it. Peace.
