Article: Negotiations on Tobacco Payment
In 1998, there was a $246 Billion Master Settlement Agreement, which ended lawsuits against the largest tobacco companies over the health care costs of smoking. The agreement included major restrictions on cigarette marketing. The big companies now say that they are entitled to a reduction of $1.2 billion of the $6.5 billion they are scheduled to pay as the next installment of the settlement, which is due on April 17.
It’s not really this particular article that gets under my skin, but smoking and tobacco companies in general. I can’t wait until smoking is banned in all public areas. If someone wants to kill themselves then make them do it inside their own homes and away from the millions of people who are trying to be healthy.
