Indie is in
In the article "Alt. Everything" pg. 77 they mention how the cool kids abandon large brand named clothing; such as tommy hilfiger and nautica. They claim to only wear non-brand clothing from thrift stores or clothes past on from other generations in their family, yet now stores like Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie and Fitch market clothes that look just the same as the thrift clothes. Companies have caught on to that crowd and are making clothing to that certain target market. Smart! Now its cool to look like you don't care, with holes in your jeans-normally costing about 4 dollars at a thrift store but sold for 80 dollars at Urban Outfitters. So I predict that the next phase these "cool" kids go through will be to go back to the big name brand designers, just like it was in eighth grade for me.

right ON!
i'm interested in predictions for the next phase, natalie. I'm thinking of pillbox hats and white gloves, shirts tucked in and shoes shined, prim and proper. let's start a revolution!
Brockett i think that might have already been done. remember when zoot suits were popular about 4 or 5 years ago, the whole shiny look was in. i can't remember if the female equalivate was in gear at that time, but i definately remember the male version. I think that the female look of that comes a lot at oscar time, cause there are always the stars that try to do old hollywood style for their oscar fashions. I found it very interesting that Charlize Theron went for somewhat of a 80's revolution look for the oscars this years...you know, the bit bow on her shoulder! But to second your idea...bring on the prim and proper style...maybe that will be the look for Automatic Pompadour's Winter 06 Collection! haha!
natalie,
another thought: have you considered this in relation to your degree project?
