I heard about buy nothing day a long time ago in an email that a friend sent me, but it wasn't until i was crusing the adbusters website that I remembered it. Think about it, one day where nobody purchased anything. didn't go to the store and buy a new pair of shoes, or the grocerie store, or buy gas, or even trade stocks? you might ask yourself how much could this effect things its just one day?
the whole thing speaks to consuming less, as our culture is one of consumption. buy buy buy, we have to have it all. it reminds me of a t-shirt i used to have "he who dies with the most toys, still dies".
pretty interesting stuff to speculate about, check out the campaigns here

while I think this is an amazing Idea, I feel it might be a little beyond the american people. Consumerism is beyond overwhelming in the US. The task seems easier than it probably is. There is always something that happens like you need gas or light bulbs or whatever.
This sounds like a good idea in theory but I wonder with the economy the way it is if this is really a good idea. This seems like it would just make the problem worse, also people would probably just buy more the day before and after so it really wouldn't make that much of a difference.
