are you using this knowledge?

i have recently been in a brief conversation about this class with a student from the university of washington who is working on a capstone project about ethics in design. she wondered if you are taking things you're learning in this class and applying them elsewhere in your design work, and if so, how is it affecting how you approach your work? i know it's a bit early in the semester, but i'm curious. thoughts?

i'm also interested in those who don't think this information is applicable to your work, and why that is so.

i feel i am taking what i learn and apply it to other works outside school but i feel i do it subconsciously. i don't realize it till after the fact- go figure :-)

i don't think that there's really such a definite distinction. we're stuck with the same mind inside and out of the design building. if i am introduced to something new, then i'll consider it and hopefully be edified by it, but you can't really parse it out between 'formal education' and 'experiential education'. i'll often have a constructive series of thoughts during or after a lecture, but i could just as well have equally important thoughts lying in bed staring at a wall. sometimes i do my best designing that way.
