After reading Kathy McCoy's article, I can't help but feel as if I am just another one of the soldiers marching one after the other, doing as I'm told, following the group. I would love to create work that spoke about politics, the environment, social classes, current events, economics issues and what-not, but when do these issues arise? I feel as if I create all my work out of self-indulgence and am ignorant about all other views. I need to work on this. back to you

I find that rather than only creating "self-indulgent work" that have forgot how to make work for myself. That is without the client/assignment sheet I have a hard time getting started. Instead I work all sorts of personal interests into this client/assignment work, which I am beginning to learn often confuses the message, or ends in a less appropriate outcome.
I think it is going to be hard to find a happy balance between client voice and personal voice.
