Tibor Kalman states, "Creative people are now working for the bottom line."
It was interesting comment that Sarah mentioned about the artists who worked for the commision of the upper class people during the Renaissance, and compare them with designers today. It's getting harder to express your own design concepts under all of those "restrictions" as a designer and I think we are becoming VERY generous about those facts as we start to get in the field. As the thinking designers, we agree with Kalman's view of losing independence of our voice and it reflects in the culture we are living in. The culture with ideas and tastes that seem like they control the trends of design. It will be the designer's responsibility to choose whether to gether with other designers and forget about his or her own ideas, or to keep the thoughts that can change the world and act upon it.
