Check out this initiative going on that deals with things we are talking about in class. This is talking about helping designers realize the positive social change they can make with design. I thought it was pretty interesting and worth reading into.
Here are a few images of their first publication:

They also have a
blog.

this project seems to employ a lot of circular promotional blah-blah and never say anything. it asks one question -- "what is social design?", yet never even attempts to answer it. the site only points you to other self-promoting products/events.
i did get a couple of bits of information out of my cursory review of these links, found in the images of their actual publication -- that the authors recognize the historical significance of social design (through both hitler and john heartfield), and a couple of quotes about "acting rather than commenting" and the power of design as "structure" rather than a veneer. both quotes were from other designers, not the paper's authors.
meh. good intentions i guess. at least they're trying. at least kelly's looking. what are the rest of you doing? making? talking about?
i just wanted to leave a comment, that is not constructive at all, saying that KELLY FLAHERTY IS ON A VISUAL ADVOCACY ROLE!
