That's what Philippe Starck is now saying. But I agree that design should start being focus on more than just fancy, cool looking consumer goods. But those should work well also.
I wonder if he would have said that before making his millions? not just when it's time to retire.

But the thing one needs most, he added, was the "ability to love".
Doesn't Hallmark supply that?
Sure you got to design a few souless consumer products once in awhile, but this guy designed hotel interiors, doesn't that seem like a worthwhile venture? You get to decide what a place feels like when you escape from your home. He creates an experience. Few products really give you such an experience that lasts much more than a few seconds. As for designing toothbrushes, well i guess I wouldn't be thrilled about deciding on bristle textures and making something one rids the germs from their mouth every morning.
i would LOVE to see his one of his 4 houses (Paris, New York, Burano (Italy), and London). i'm sure it is oozes with modesty.
arrogance AND hypocrisy? he's got the whole package.
it will be interesting to track what he does and if/how those statements really come out in his lifestyle choices. rhianna, you make a good point about his houses. i wonder if he will go so far as to renounce that kind of lifestyle. i wonder if he has spent so much time designing "things" that he neglected his human relationships. that's the truly sad part about the article. but beyond that, let's wait and see what he really does. talk - action = 0
I understand what you are saying tyler about would he have a change of mind now... but he made millions making things fancy and cool. However, I do not think that he would change anything because money talks!
